Well, I would love to be able to say we freshened things up a bit this weekend but between a severe injury list and work commitments, we go into this match with ten fit players. Jamie Mackay puts in a terrific shift for 80 minutes which is way more than we’d want to ask of him at this stage in his recovery and we’re forced to bring our only kitted out sub on for the last period with Gregor (Lamb) also carrying an injury. So, once again it felt like an uphill struggle from the outset but the lads started really brightly, took the game to Oakley and deservedly went ahead with an early goal from Robbie Renwick.
As we expected though, Oakley came back into it and on a very difficult surface they took full advantage of their home surroundings with long throws in particular causing us issues. That said, when we did get the ball down, the lads did well but those small margins haunted us again and reactions in competing in the 2nd and 3rd phases cost us two goals before half time.
Losing a third just before the hour mark with no real options to shake things up, the lads could have been forgiven for letting the heads go down a bit but yet again they stuck to the task and gave it everything. A great strike from Fraser Stewart gets us right back into it with a great strike which could have led to a nervy finish for the home side. Sadly, they get a free kick from what looked like a perfect tackle by Naz (Nathan McDonald) and they restore the two goal lead and see it out.
We move on and back to training ahead of next Saturday where, all being well, we hope to have something closer to resembling a squad to choose from in a big match against Tweedmouth Rangers.
