I’m absolutely delighted to get the first win since I came in out of the way and it was one we hard to work very hard for. As I’ve said previously, we haven’t been too far away in most games since I came on board and it felt it was only a matter of time until we started picking up results.
All credit to Harthill Royal who came flying out of the traps at the start of the game and probably dominated the first 25/30 minutes without maybe creating any clear cut chances but their hard work and energy out of possession wasn’t giving us any time on the ball and we were very complacent with stray passes or giving up cheap possession when we did get opportunities to get into the game. But we did then grow into the game in the latter part of the half and had a couple of reasonable opportunities ourselves to get in front. However, the 0-0 scoreline at half time was probably a fair reflection on the game.
In the dressing room at half time I basically just told the lads to keep plugging away and it would only be a matter of time before Harthill started to tire after all the high pressing and energy they’d shown in the first half.
Again though, Harthill started brightly in the early stages of the second half but all credit to the boys when they got us in front through a well worked piece of play to be finished off with a nice little glancing header from Scott (Inglis). From here with our confidence up a bit we dominated the pay and looked dangerous every time we went forward and when the second goal came it was nothing more than we deserved. We had spoken about set pieces before the game and how we hadn’t been getting the joy from them that we felt we should. Well today we were proved wrong and nearly every ball put into the box from Ross (Lamb) landed on the head of one of our players and it was no surprise when Gregor (Lamb) got on the end of one and scored our second of the game.
From there I thought we were very comfortable and on another day could have added to the goals tally. However, in the final five minutes, fair play again to Harthill who made it very nervy for us when they got an injury time goal back and then put pressure on us for the remaining couple of minutes. The boys held out though and it’s no more than they deserved.
Four points from the last two games should now give us plenty of confidence going into next weekend’s match away to Stirling University.
Thanks once again to everyone for the support
Stuart
